Introduction
Hi everyone! I'm Steve. I head up the technology department at Stylesight, and I'm very excited to find a group where I can volunteer my skills to good causes!
What kind of technologist are you? Or if you represent a social mission organization, what's it called and what are your goals?
I'm sort of a jack of all trades for web development and IT. I'm a LAMP/Javascript/CSS developer, with experience in a few other languages too, I've set up servers, networks, corporate offices, storage systems, database systems... whatever was needed! I'm a problem solver. I work for a for-profit business, and I don't want to leave my job, but I would like to feel like my work gave back to the community a little more.
Are you currently working on any projects that use technology for social good?
I help out an organization called the Iranian Railroad for Queer Refugees (http://irqr.net/), which helps queer people facing persecution and extremely cruel punishment in Iran escape and find asylum in other countries. I wrote a customized database for them and advise them on their various technical needs.
